“In the military we have General Order number one: `I shall not leave my appointed place of duty or post until properly relieved,’” said West, a retired Army lieutenant colonel. “If a leader takes off, we call it `desertion.’ What manner of person runs and hides instead of making a stand, making a decision?”
I wish West would run for president. His 22 years of military experience, combined with his no-nonsense approach to foreign policy and social issues and his "wow-factor" charisma would make him an ideal candidate.
Obama's high speed rails non-conspiracy - Erick Erickson - Red State
Wondering why nobody in the Obama administration seems concerned about gasoline prices that are rising at an alarming rate? Erick Erickson has an idea why:
"It is not a conspiracy. Some of you think it is. It is not. A conspiracy is a secret plot by two or more people to do something harmful. What Barack Obama is doing is no conspiracy — it is not secret. Harmful, yes. Secret, no. In fact, the administration is pretty open about it.
"I’m talking, of course, about high-speed rail. High-speed rail is the reason Barack Obama couldn’t care less about what is going on in the Middle East. High-speed rail is the reason Barack Obama is perfectly willing to let us descend into a Carter Era energy crisis. High-speed rail is the reason Barack Obama does not want us to “drill here, drill now.”
"It’s not a conspiracy. The facts are everywhere. Jay Hakes, who was in charge of the Energy Information Administration under Bill Clinton, is quoted in the Wall Street Journal saying,“There’s no way we can create a better future without the price of [fossil-fuel-based] energy going up.” Barack Obama’s own Energy Secretary, Steven Chu, has said, “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.”...
"...Barack Obama does not care about what is happening in the Middle East. He does not care about the cost to you to fill up your car with gas. Because the more you pay through Mid-East turmoil and inaccessible American oil deposits, the sooner his future of coal powered cars and high-speed trains can arrive.
"This is an Obama created crisis he wants to make sure does not get wasted."

"CNN's team filmed families locking up their loved ones, children discarded by institutions, cases of suspected sexual abuse. Kenya faces an epidemic of neglect...
"...But often, Maina and her charity are the only ones acting. Scores of cases of neglect and abuse flood their office every day: autistic children chained in chicken coops, epileptic adults sealed in filthy shacks, daughters raped by their fathers. They are overwhelmed.
"Dr. Frank Njenga, president of the African Association of Psychiatrists and a leading expert in the field, believes the scale is "catastrophic."
"We as a people have perfected the system of hiding our friends, relatives and other loved ones who have intellectual disability away from sight," Njenga said. "Out of sight, out of mind, no funding, neglected completely."
"Only white men with at least a 3.0 grade-point average need apply for a new scholarship being offered by a new nonprofit group started by an Iraq war veteran.
"The scholarship is being offered by "The Former Majority Association for Equality".
"Colby Bohannon, the president of FMAE, started the group after he had a hard-time securing a scholarship for himself.
"The group claims it's not racially motivated and doesn't have an agenda to promote racial bigotry or segegration.
"Applicants must be a man, at least a quarter caucasian, have a proven commitment to education and financial need."
Having spent a good amount of time sifting through THOUSANDS of "diversity" scholarships and finding out that white males need not apply, I can understand the sentiment behind this scholarship. For example, Google offers scholarships for women, Indians, Hispanics, African Americans and students with disabilities. White males? Not a single scholarship.
"The twice-divorced former U.S. House speaker has admitted an affair with a former congressional aide who is now his third wife. His career in Congress is remembered as much for his dramatic fall — the federal government shutdown, his censure and the loss of Republican seats in the House — as his rise. His polarizing style sometimes leaves would-be voters cold....
"...But with the economy improving slowly and the Middle East in turmoil, voters might be more willing than they otherwise would to overlook his personal issues.

“I care about jobs, not who somebody slept with when,” said Lee Young, a 67-year-old retired farmer eating lunch at the Good Earth diner in Muscatine, Iowa.
"Gingrich will face a key test with social conservatives when he returns to Iowa on Monday to address the state’s Faith and Freedom Coalition. Ralph Reed, the former head of the Christian Coalition and a fellow Georgian, said Gingrich could win his “fair share” of religious voters.
“People can be very forgiving and believe in redemption. … Newt needs to be authentic,” Reed said."
So as long as you're authentic, right? I don't know....in my book, if a man's wife can't trust him then maybe the taxpayers shouldn't, either. Integrity is integrity and a long, well-known series of moral failures doesn't give me confidence that a man is fit to be the kind of statesman we need to lead our country out of this mess.
"House Majority Leader Eric Cantor came to Speaker John Boehner’s side Monday, promising action by Friday to defend the Defense of Marriage Act, now that President Barack Obama has said he won’t.
“I stand by [Boehner’s] commitment to make that happen,” Cantor (R-Va.) said Monday afternoon at a press conference, promising to outline their plans in detail Friday.
"Cantor said the Justice Department’s refusal to defend the law is a problem separate from the substance of the law itself, which allows states to decide whether to recognize same-sex unions in other states. The Justice Department has called another provision, that bars same-sex couples from receiving federal-worker benefits, unconstitutional.
“Again I do believe that this is a case that is distinguishable on its merits and to have the administration take the position, the president take the position, that he’s not defending the law of the land, is something very troubling I think to most members of the House,” Cantor said.
"When pressed on what House Republicans planned to do, he demurred.
“I think you’ll see that on Friday,” Cantor said.
"In a taped interview posted Monday, Boehner (R-Ohio) said the GOP-controlled House could appoint a special counsel to defend the law commonly known as DOMA, a suggestion first made by former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.)."

Rick Santorum: one of the few potential presidential candidates openly courting social conservatives. I'm liking him more and more.

...according to Planned Parenthood, of course. From a letter to the editor criticizing Rep. Jim Renacci for voting to de-fund the organization, Tara Broderick, President of Planned Parenthood of NE Ohio says:
"According to the Guttmacher Institute, every public dollar invested in family planning in Ohio saves taxpayers a minimum of $4.13 in Medicaid costs for prenatal care, delivery, and postnatal care associated with an unintended pregnancy."
Put another way, every government-funded DEATH by abortion saves Ohio taxpayers money in prenatal, delivery, and postnatal care. And the liberals say conservatives are not compassionate? Wow. Thank you to Congressman Renacci for voting to defund this corrupt organization.

"There is no place in British law for Christian beliefs, despite this country’s long history of religious observance and the traditions of the established Church, two High Court judges said on Monday.
"Lord Justice Munby and Mr Justice Beatson made the remarks when ruling on the case of a Christian couple who were told that they could not be foster carers because of their view that homosexuality is wrong.
"The judges underlined that, in the case of fostering arrangements at least, the right of homosexuals to equality “should take precedence” over the right of Christians to manifest their beliefs and moral values."

"One of the people I have the hardest time with is the “Friend who assumes you’ve read every one of their tweets or Facebook status updates.”
I have a hard time with this person because I’m usually the one who does this to my friends. Here’s what our conversations look like:
Me: I did end up seeing that movie.
Friend: What are you talking about?
Me: Remember, that movie I tweeted about? I ended up renting it. Did you agree with how I felt it ended?
Friend: I’m still not sure what you’re talking about.
Me: Seriously? A week ago I tweeted: “I thought Social Network was good. Great dialogue. It felt like it didn’t finish though, it just ended but that’s challenge of a live story.” Are you pulling my leg right now, or do you really not remember my tweet? Read the rest...
Finally, an inspirational video from Robert McQuilken, who resigned his presidency at Columbia to care for his wife, who was suffering with Alzheimers. This is true love. "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends" (John 15:13).
